How to become a Grade 7

There is no single path into Grade 7 roles. Campaigns hire from inside government and from outside, using Success Profiles to compare evidence fairly.

Build evidence at the right level

At Grade 7, assessors expect: strategic framing, leading teams or complex projects and advising senior stakeholders. Collect examples that show that depth before you apply.

Application route

1. Find an open campaign on Civil Service Jobs.
2. Note the behaviours and word limits in the advert.
3. Write STAR statements pitched at Grade 7.
4. Prepare for a behaviour interview using the same examples.
