About us
BehaviourStatements.com is an independent UK resource that helps Civil Service applicants write behaviour statements using the Success Profiles framework. We are not a government site, and we are not affiliated with the UK Government or the Civil Service.
Why this site exists
We built BehaviourStatements.com because we saw how many capable people were being sifted out of Civil Service applications not because they lacked the right experience, but because they did not know how to present it. The Success Profiles framework is powerful, but the guidance on how to use it is scattered, technical, and often assumes prior knowledge.
We wanted to create something different: a calm, practical resource written in plain English, with real examples that show what works and why. No jargon. No gatekeeping. No pretending to be official.
Who we are
This site is written and maintained by a small team of serving civil servants, former sift panel members, and interview assessors who have sat on both sides of the Civil Service recruitment process. We have read thousands of behaviour statements, conducted hundreds of interviews, and seen the same mistakes — and the same strengths — again and again.
We are not consultants. We are the experienced colleague who sits down with you at lunch and shows you exactly what they wrote — and why it worked.

What we believe
Clarity first
If a word has a simpler form, we use it. We write for a reading age of 12–14 because our audience includes people for whom English is a second language and people reading under stress the night before a deadline.
Honesty about uncertainty
If GOV.UK guidance changed or varies by department, we say so and date the claim. We never invent rules or pretend to speak for the Civil Service.
Encouragement, not patronising
We know the application process is stressful. We reassure about the process, but we respect the reader. No "anyone can do this!" fluff. Just clear, actionable guidance.
Examples from real backgrounds
Our examples come from varied backgrounds: retail, care, hospitality, volunteering, office work, operational delivery. We do not assume everyone has managed a team or written policy. You can show leadership at any grade, and you can write a strong statement without a dramatic story.
How we create content
Every example on this site is original and written specifically for this site. We do not spin or duplicate content. Each example is word-count accurate, checked against the official Success Profiles framework, and reviewed by someone who has assessed statements at sift.
We update content when Civil Service guidance changes. If you spot something that looks out of date, let us know.
How we are funded
BehaviourStatements.com is funded through a combination of display advertising, affiliate links to relevant career resources, and digital products such as templates and guides. We do not accept payment from the Civil Service or any government department, and we do not sell user data.
We will never claim to be official. We will never use the Crown, GOV.UK logo, or the word "official" in any claim. We will always be clear about what we know, what we do not know, and where to find the official guidance.
