How to use this tool

  1. Select your target word count. Click 250, 500, or 750 words depending on what the job advert asks for.
  2. Paste your draft. Copy your statement from Word, Google Docs, or wherever you wrote it.
  3. Watch the progress bar. It turns amber when you reach 90% of your limit and red if you go over.
  4. Check the feedback. The tool gives you tips on structure and common mistakes as you write.
📄 Important note

Some Civil Service job adverts specify a character limit instead of a word limit. If your advert says "maximum 2500 characters," use the character count above. One word is typically 5–6 characters including spaces.
